People who get good amount of engagement on social media are different from other who just post things to be seen, you need to know about the social media content distribution. 

I’ve tried many different methods over many years, I found that a methodical approach works best so let’s see.

I’ve seen brands spend hours designing and writing great content, only to be disappointed when it doesn’t reach many people. What’s the matter? No plan for spread. A sign in the middle of nowhere doesn’t get seen, and neither does content that isn’t shared. 

A well-thought-out way to distribute your posts will make sure they reach the right people at the right time. It’s about knowing where your audience spends their time and using more than one outlet.

The Golden Rule

Every post doesn’t work on every device. What works on Instagram might not work on LinkedIn, and because Twitter is so fast-paced, you need a different plan than for YouTube. This is what I’ve found to work best:

  • Short-form videos (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) → Great for engagement and viral potential.
  • Text-heavy insights (LinkedIn, Twitter) → Ideal for authority-building.
  • Carousel posts & infographics (Instagram, Pinterest) → Perfect for digestible information.
  • Long-form content (YouTube, blogs, newsletters) → Best for in-depth storytelling.

Posting time also matters. I once worked with a brand that struggled with low engagement. Simply shifting their posting schedule to when their audience was active (evenings and weekends) tripled their reach.

Beyond Organic!

One of the worst mistakes I’ve ever seen about social media content distribution? There are brands that run bold ads without a natural basis. People skip over ads that are easy to see. Instead, sponsored distribution should fit in with how the site works naturally.

  • Boosting well-performing organic posts → If a post already gets engagement, pushing it further is a smart move.
  • Whitelisting influencer content → Letting influencers promote your post makes it feel more authentic.
  • Retargeting engaged users → I’ve seen great success by targeting those who already interacted with past posts.

One of the worst ways I can see to waste time? Instead of rehashing old content, making new content for each site. 

A well-researched blog post shouldn’t just stay on your site. Here’s what I do for every piece of writing: 

  • Make a Twitter thread out of it. 
  • Make an Instagram slideshow that sums up important points. 
  • Change it so it looks like a LinkedIn post. 
  • Make a short movie that goes over the main points. 
  • Send it to your email list.

Let Others Promote for You

A quick hint? Test two different post styles. Changing just one word in a title can sometimes get people more interested.

  • Click-through rates → Are they taking action?
  • Shares & saves → Is the content resonating?
