18 PR tools you can now run from Claude and ChatGPT

19 mins read

As of October 2026, at least 18 PR tools ship an MCP server—so Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor can draft a release, build a media list, or answer a journalist query inside the tool itself, without you opening a single tab.

The shift happened fast. In the first week of July 2026, Featured (the company behind HARO) and Press Ranger launched MCP servers two days apart. Agility PR followed in August. Journalist databases, podcast databases, and monitoring platforms filled in the rest.

This guide maps every PR-specific MCP we could verify, grouped by the job it does: release prep and distribution, media databases, journalist requests, podcasts, and monitoring. SEO tools and AI-visibility (GEO) trackers are left out on purpose—they deserve their own list.

Disclosure: PRNEWS.IO and Medialister are our products. We list them alongside competitors and describe them by the same criteria.

What MCP Means for a PR Team

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call a product’s functions directly. The vendor publishes an MCP server; you connect it to your assistant once; from then on, the assistant can search, draft, or report inside that product on your behalf.

For PR, that changes where the work happens:

  • Before MCP: you copy a draft from ChatGPT into your newswire, export a media list as CSV, and paste journalist queries into a chat to get an answer
  • With MCP: you ask the assistant, and it works in the PR tool itself—the draft lands in your account, the list is built from the live database, the query comes straight from the source

Most PR vendors connect through OAuth, scoped to your own account. You sign in once in the browser and never handle an API key.

Press Release Prep and Distribution

Five servers let an assistant write, check, and send releases. Most keep a person in the loop before anything goes out.

Press Ranger

Press Ranger calls its server the first MCP for press release distribution (V1, July 9, 2026). The assistant drafts releases into your account, manages company profiles, attaches photos and video, checks a draft against Press Ranger’s editorial guidelines, and pulls distribution reports. Since July it also finds journalists by the articles they publish.

  • Clients: Claude, ChatGPT, Codex
  • Access: every account, free plan included; OAuth
  • Human step: publishing and choosing a distribution tier happen in the dashboard

Prezly

Prezly is a newsroom and PR CRM. Through MCP the assistant summarizes what you published, drafts a story in the tone of past releases, translates it, compares campaign sends, and finds cold contacts. A person reviews and publishes from their own Prezly account; revoking the API key cuts off the MCP within a minute.

Online.PR

Online.PR publishes an open-source (MIT) server with 11 tools: search PR agencies and publications, browse distribution packages, request quotes from agencies, get checkout links, and submit a release to its newsroom. Search needs no key; orders and submissions need one. The repository is very new—one commit at the time of writing.

Presscloud

Presscloud runs the full cycle for agencies in the Netherlands and Belgium: search 83,000+ NL/BE journalists, build press lists, draft a release in the client’s tone, schedule with an embargo, dry-run the send, and report opens, clicks, and replies. One call can roll an announcement out across several clients. Every send needs your confirmation; MCP access comes with the Enterprise plan.

Agent Press Wire

Agent Press Wire is the experimental outlier: the agent drafts a release from your product URL and pays per call in USDC—$1 for a newsroom page, $99 or $299 for wire distribution. The agent quotes the price first and sends only after you approve it.

Media Databases and Journalist Search

This is the busiest category: six servers turn “who should I pitch?” into a query against a live database. Two are marketplaces of paid placements; four are journalist databases.

PRNEWS.IO

The PRNEWS.IO MCP queries our catalog of about 108,000 active placement offers. The assistant filters by country, audience country, language, niche, format (press release, sponsored article, interview, listicle, and more), price, traffic, and authority metrics, and it can check which outlets accept sensitive topics such as crypto or gambling. Each result links to the outlet’s page in the catalog.

Medialister

The Medialister MCP searches the marketplace and reads your workspace: organizations, projects, campaigns, and orders with their status. It suits agencies that want the assistant to answer “what’s published for this client, and what’s still in progress?”

JournoFinder

JournoFinder puts 1M+ journalist contacts behind a conversational media-list builder. You describe the campaign; the assistant returns journalists vetted for beat and reach, each with supporting coverage and a written rationale, then exports the list to CSV. Six campaign playbooks are built in, from data-led stories to newsjacking. MCP comes with every annual plan.

Media List

Media List offers a read-only server with 9 tools: search journalists, editors, TV and radio producers, podcast hosts, and creators by beat, outlet, and location, plus your saved lists and campaigns. OAuth or API key; a paid plan is required.

Medialyst

Medialyst covers media lists, journalist emails and moves, article and publication lookup, news search, and contact enrichment. It also exposes a journalist request feed, free on every plan—so it doubles as a HARO-style source. OAuth in Claude, API key in Claude Code.

PressPitch AI

PressPitch AI launched its MCP on May 17, 2026, with four tools: search journalists, generate a personalized pitch, send it, and check your credits. Sending and contact details require Premium; the free tier needs no card.

Journalist Requests (HARO Format)

The HARO model—a journalist asks, an expert answers—now has three MCP routes.

Featured

Featured runs HARO and Connectively, and its MCP went live on July 7, 2026. It exposes three tool sets: workflows (browse templates, check schedules and run history; launch and update them on paid plans), one natural-language search across journalist queries, podcasts, bylines, LinkedIn opportunities, speaking calls, and awards, and the accounts connected to your organization. Every connection uses OAuth 2.1 and is scoped to your own account.

Medialyst Journalist Request Feed

The list_journalist_requests tool in Medialyst returns open requests with filters by date, status, and keyword. The feed is free on every plan, which makes it the cheapest way to let an agent screen queries on a schedule.

Journalist Request Finder (Apify)

Journalist Request Finder is a third-party scraper, not a product of the platforms it reads. It collects requests from SourceBottle and from #journorequest posts on Bluesky and Mastodon into one feed with outlet, deadline, and a link to respond, and an agent calls it through Apify’s MCP server. Pricing starts at $1.80 per 1,000 requests delivered.

Podcasts

Guest pitching is PR too, and two podcast databases now answer through MCP.

  • Rephonic: 26 tools over 3M+ podcasts: search, transcripts, listener demographics, and host contacts (email, contact pages, social accounts) for building a pitch list. The repository sits under Rephonic’s GitHub organization, but the Claude Market directory labels it community-maintained, so check the source before you add your API key.
  • Pod Engine: official server with OAuth: podcast and transcript search, similar shows, estimated listeners, charts, and sponsors (beta). Host contacts are not among its MCP tools.

Media Monitoring

Monitoring sits next to PR rather than inside it, but three platforms let you ask your coverage questions in plain language.

  • Agility PR: launched August 18, 2026, and listed in the Claude Connector Directory. Requires Agility’s Media Intelligence API; each team member signs in with their own account, so the assistant sees only what they can see.
  • Meltwater: one remote server for news and social mentions, analytics, and your saved searches and tags. Available to API customers with an MCP package; authenticated with an API token, OAuth planned.
  • Brand24: according to an independent review, launched in January 2026, connects over OAuth, and returns project summaries, events, topics, and influencer activity rather than raw mentions. Available from the Pro plan.

Who Is Missing

The largest names in PR software have no official MCP that we could find as of October 20, 2026: Cision and PR Newswire, Muck Rack, and Qwoted. Nor did we find one from Business Wire, GlobeNewswire, or EIN Presswire.

The community did not wait. A developer under the name pipeworx-io published unofficial, read-only servers that pull public release feeds from PR Newswire, Business Wire, PRWeb, Newswire.com, and EIN Presswire. They are useful for watching competitor announcements, not for distributing your own—and nothing in them is endorsed by the wires.

One naming trap: the MuckRock MCP you may find on GitHub belongs to MuckRock, a platform for filing Freedom of Information Act requests. It has nothing to do with Muck Rack.

Three Patterns Across the Market

  1. A person stays on the send button. Press Ranger keeps publishing in its dashboard, Prezly has a person publish, Presscloud asks for confirmation, and Agent Press Wire sends only after you approve its quote. Vendors let agents draft at scale but not speak to journalists unsupervised.
  2. Your account, not a shared key. Featured, Press Ranger, Medialyst, Pod Engine, and Agility PR connect over OAuth and scope every call to what you can already see. Revoking access is one click.
  3. Reading is open; writing is gated. Searching databases and feeds is often free or cheap. Sending pitches, launching workflows, or wiring a release sits behind paid tiers—PressPitch AI Premium, Featured’s paid plans, Presscloud Enterprise.

One Announcement, Six Servers

The value shows up when servers are chained in one conversation. Here is how a single launch can run from brief to coverage, with a person deciding only at the step that matters.

one announcement through six MCP servers

The agent does the research, the list, and the draft; you approve the send; the agent then reports back. Every tool here is described above, and none of them requires leaving the chat.

How to Connect a PR Tool to Your Assistant

Most servers in this list are remote: you paste one URL and sign in.

  1. Find the server URL on the vendor’s MCP page (for example, featured.com/mcp or pressranger.com/pages/mcp)
  2. Claude (web or desktop): open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste the URL, and sign in to the PR tool when the browser opens
  3. ChatGPT: add the server as a connector in developer mode on a paid plan, then authorize it the same way
  4. Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code: add the server to your MCP configuration, or run the vendor’s one-line install command (claude mcp add … in Claude Code)
  5. Turn it on for the chat and ask in plain language: “Find tech journalists in Germany who covered fintech launches this quarter”

Open-source servers such as Online.PR run locally through npx; add them to your client’s configuration file instead of pasting a URL.

Before You Connect: A Checklist

  • ☐ Who publishes? Confirm the server cannot send to journalists or the wire without your approval
  • ☐ Official or community? Check that the vendor maintains the server; community servers can break or change without notice
  • ☐ Scope of access. Prefer OAuth scoped to your account over an API key you have to store
  • ☐ Plan requirements. Many servers need a specific tier—Enterprise, Premium, Pro, or an API package
  • ☐ Client data. Agencies should check whether one connection covers several clients (Presscloud, Medialister) or needs one per account
  • ☐ Costs per call. Credit-based and pay-per-call servers (Medialyst, Apify, Agent Press Wire) can spend money on every agent run

FAQ

Which PR tool launched the first MCP server? Featured made its MCP generally available on July 7, 2026; Press Ranger launched what it calls the first MCP for press release distribution two days later. PressPitch AI announced its journalist-search MCP earlier, on May 17, 2026.

Does Muck Rack have an MCP server? Not an official one as of October 20, 2026. The MuckRock MCP on GitHub is a FOIA request tool from a different company.

Does Cision or PR Newswire have an MCP server? No official one. Unofficial community servers read PR Newswire’s public feed, but they cannot distribute releases.

Can an AI agent send a press release on its own? Only with a few tools, and usually after you confirm: Presscloud asks before each send, Agent Press Wire sends after you approve its quote, and PressPitch AI sends pitches on Premium. Press Ranger and Prezly keep publishing with a person.

Do I need a developer to set this up? No. Remote servers connect by pasting a URL into Claude or ChatGPT and signing in.
